Olympic Gold Quest

India has 2nd largest population in the world and if it continues unabated we would soon overcome China in years to come. Being Indian, makes us think every day for our country and then we say, “We can’t help it”. Out of numerous good and bad areas to reflect in our country, Sport is major area of concern. We are more than a billion in numbers and we have very few occasions to prove to the world our potential in one of greatest sporting event on Earth called Olympics. Off late, our realization of the situation has helped us to win medals in Olympics, but we still have a long way to go.

I happened to read about “Olympic Gold Quest”(OGQ) promoted by Foundation for promotion of Sports and Games which includes eminent players such as Geet Sethi, Prakash Padukone, Leander Paes, Vishwanathan Anand to name a few, very recently. Olympic Gold Quest is an initiative by the Foundation to identify talented individuals among the sportspersons and promote their specialized training in the quest for an Olympics medal.

It is mindful that recent improvements in the performance of Indian Athletes have been a gift of OGQ. The Athletes promoted by OGQ have helped the country win 27 medals in the recently concluded Asian Games at China 2010. Saina Nehwal recent ranking improvements have been another gift for us by OGQ. The Foundation supported the cost of her visit to Hong Kong for Hong Kong Super Series. OGQ has emerged as a body which supports Indian sportspersons and helps them win Medals through specialized trainings required.

The selection process for funding is rigorous and is purely based on merit and various other factors which evaluates a sportsperson and is decided by the directors who themselves are eminent names in the World. OGQ is a not for profit institution and works purely on funding from corporate bodies and individuals. The foundation aims to have more than 1 million contributors every month, with a small contribution of INR 100, which would support more than 2000 Athletes in India who have the potential to rise and prove their mettle to the world of Sport. Let’s join hands towards this cause and donate atleast INR 100 to have more medals in the next Olympics. As the website reads

“It takes just 6 gms of Gold to lift the worth of a nation

Come Join Us in our quest for GOLD!”
